How we use, develop and challenge forms and conventions
We felt the easiest way to explore this question was via a commentary of our trailer:
This comic strip also explains how we used and developed convention:
We chose to present it like this because it looks like people having a conversation about our work

Below you can see how we integrated theory into our ideas:
The Pact Victim
One of our main characters is a young blonde girl similar to the victim in 'The Pact'. This not only plays homage to other horror films but used forms and conventions of a horror, as the victim is usually typical a pretty blonde girl.
Our Victim
The Pacts abnormal girl
We used a brunette girl as our abnormal character to clearly show the audience who was the bad character and who was the victim. This also plays homage to other horror films such as 'The Pact'.
Our abnormal girl
We followed convention on how we structured our trailer. In the start of our trailer everything is slow. All the titles are shown for a long time and the non-digetic soundtrack is slow. However as you watch our trailer the shots get faster and shorter and the sound gets quicker and louder. This is seen in many trailers just like 'The Pact' which we played homage to. However we then break convention. We added a long clip of the victim and a slow soundtrack, this slows the trailer down and draws the audience in. By then adding a range of fast shots to finish we think this makes our structure interesting and separates us from others in the same genre.
How we used and challenged conventions

Our poster challenges forms and conventions as we haven't shown the victim or the abnormal girl thats in our trailer, on the poster. We also didn't play homage to any other posters and just created our own idea which made it unique and different to any horror poster we've seen. Our poster doesn't give much away about the genre which makes the overall trailer mysterious. We chose not to put a tag line on to keep it simplistic and not too crowded.
We used forms and conventions by keeping a dark background and using colours such as black and white. With exception to a minimal bit of red which stands out to the audience. We also had an iconic feature, the eye, which is an iconic image in our trailer also.

We used forms and conventions in our magazine by using an iconic actress from our trailer (the victim) as our main focus on the magazine cover. She is in costume we helps the audience associate what film shes from. We also used a picture of a Ouija board from our trailer which helps the audience associate the film and the magazine together. We kept the background dark to show our genre of film. It helps create an dark and eerie feel. We used red, white and yellow colours for the fonts. We did this because its popular in other horror/film magazines such as Empire which attracts the audience. We chose not to challenge conventions in our magazine as we wanted a familiar appearance to the people buying the magazine. This way it would catch the eye and it would relate to other magazines that are popular.
