When people think of paranormal they think of a place that they associate with the word. The word 'paranormal' has always been linked to specific locations. These locations all through time have been the same sort of places, for example abandend buildings, churches and old buildings. This is the same in horror films, there is always that haunted house where bad events take place. For example 'The Grudge'. The reason people become to intrigued with paranormal events and films is the fact that it is so hard to prove. The idea of haunting can never be 100% approved or denied, therefore, makes people more curious about what really goes on.

When thinking of the term 'paranormal' people immediately relate it to ghosts. Some people believe that most ghosts haunt locations because they feel that they should continue to stay around rather than passing over. Some of these ghosts are very famous indeed, Kings, Queens, Lords and Ladies, Actors, Musicians, Politicians and Generals. This is also reflected in this genre of horror. Much of the time there is a specific spirit that is causing the problems. However sometimes in films they do break away from this convention and specific ghosts haunt specific people like 'Paranormal Activity'. However this has also been recorded in history of happening making more realistic and more scary to watch. Paranormal films are now being related to demons and the devil as well as just ghosts. For example the film 'Insidious'. The reason that paranormal films are usually quite successful is because of the audience's curiosity of what really goes on.
